David’s Journey
David Vaught (November 27, 1948 – March 20, 2013) was a multifaceted American musician, producer, recording engineer, and arranger whose contributions spanned rock, folk, and world music. He began playing bass and electric guitar at age eleven, and by thirteen, he recorded an album with the Renegades, showcasing his extraordinary talent. His early success hinted at the remarkable career that lay ahead.
Over the decades, David worked with icons like Tom Waits, The Association, and Toad the Wet Sprocket. From playing bass in Rosebud to engineering platinum albums, his career reflected unparalleled dedication and creativity. His studio in Thousand Oaks, California, became a hub for innovation, producing timeless works like “Texas Funeral” and albums for Primitive Radio Gods and Counting Crows. David’s work was not just about making music—it was about creating moments that resonated with listeners on a deeply emotional level. He often said he didn’t play for money but for the love of the craft, striving to create music that truly spoke to him—a reminder for all of us to pursue what we’re passionate about.
Beyond the Studio: Family and Influence
David was a devoted father to his daughter Chloe Vaught and step-father to Garrett Prado and Destyn Dagle. His love for music naturally extended into his family life, inspiring each of them in unique ways. Destyn, surrounded by David’s musical world from a young age, recalls traveling to festivals, fairs, and even Disneyland and Disney World to watch David perform. “Being immersed in live music and witnessing its magic left an indelible mark on me. It taught me to love not just music but the experience of sharing it with others,” Destyn shares.
Garrett Prado, another of David’s step-children, shares the same passion for music and connection. Garrett’s creativity and insight have been instrumental in helping Destyn shape and grow Harmony-SideBRAIN. Alongside Garrett’s son Kendric, a budding musician and producer, the family continues to build on David’s belief in the unifying power of music. “Harmony-SideBRAIN isn’t just a project—it’s a family legacy inspired by David’s ability to bring people together through music,” says Destyn.
Kendric’s youthful energy and fresh ideas ensure that Harmony-SideBRAIN continues to evolve. By blending David’s foundational influence with the family’s shared love for music, Harmony-SideBRAIN stands as a tribute to his legacy and a celebration of music’s ability to connect and inspire across generations.

How David’s Vision Shaped Harmony-SideBRAIN
As David’s step-son, Destyn Dagle lived with him and spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of his studios. Surrounded by the hum of creativity—guitars strumming, drums beating, and artists collaborating—Destyn witnessed firsthand how effortlessly David brought people together through music. Whether working with legendary artists or mentoring up-and-coming talent, David’s approach to music was always grounded in collaboration and connection.
This collaborative energy became the heart of Harmony-SideBRAIN, a project inspired by David’s ability to unify people through music. Garrett Prado’s creative vision and Kendric’s innovative contributions have further enriched the project, ensuring its relevance for musicians of all levels. “Harmony-SideBRAIN isn’t just about keeping time—it’s about creating harmony and fostering community, just as David did in his life and music,” Destyn explains.
Placed at the intersection of David’s artistry and his family’s shared love for music, Harmony-SideBRAIN continues to grow as a tribute to his legacy. Through this project, David’s belief in the power of music to connect and inspire lives on, bridging generations of musicians and fostering a sense of unity that mirrors his life’s work.
